Mai + Lachlan | Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat

Once upon a time… back before bushfires, floods and COVID19, Mai and Lachlan said ‘i do’ in front of family and friends at their beautiful Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat wedding. Fast forward a few months and it feels like the world has been turned upside down. We were devastated to learn that this amazing venue was destroyed in the Currowan Fire of January 2020. It has always been one of our favourite wedding venues – the light, the rock cathedral, the natural bushland setting and the views are stunning. Mai and Lachlan’s wedding was, in fact the very last wedding we photographed here before the fires. The great news is that Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat is set to rise from the ashes. We know it will return better than ever before, and we are looking forward to returning to photograph weddings here from late 2021.

In the meantime, back to our story… Mai and Lachlan’s wedding day not only brought together two families, but two cultures. With traditional Japanese elements and ceremonies woven into the day, this wedding was intimate, unique and a true reflection of this couple’s own story. One of the stand out visual elements of the day were the bright florals in various shades of pinks and mauves; creating a vibrant pop of colour in contrast to the natural bushland setting. Not only was the day visually beautiful, it was also great fun with plenty of belly laughs, lots of love and quite a few happy tears. Don’t miss the paw-fectly adorable ring bearer, Koko the dog!
